Understanding Tabyeen

The most dangerous lie of our age isn't the kind people reject — it's the kind dressed as virtue. This session opens with a warning about fitnah, sedition, from the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali, peace be upon him: it does not usually arrive as obvious falsehood. "A portion is taken from here and another from there," he taught — truth and falsehood mixed together until Satan dominates those who follow him. That mixing, not outright denial, is what actually destroys societies. Truth is rarely murdered outright. It is diluted. The session traces this pattern from the era of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family — when enemies were open and the lines were clear — through the governorship of Imam Ali, when former companions who had once stood beside the Prophet turned against him, uncertain, hesitating, even while acknowledging his virtue aloud. By the time confusion reached its peak, entire armies fought against the rightful Imam while believing themselves righteous. The remedy, the Qur'an insists, is not silence. God took a covenant from those given the Book: "You shall surely clarify it for the people and not conceal it." Ambiguity is not neutrality — it is the cover falsehood actually needs to advance. أَنَا يَا مَوْلايَ مَوْلًى لَكَ وَ لِآلِ بَيْتِكَ سِلْمٌ لِمَنْ سَالَمَكُمْ وَ حَرْبٌ لِمَنْ حَارَبَكُمْ مُؤْمِنٌ بِسِرِّكُمْ وَ جَهْرِكُمْ وَ ظَاهِرِكُمْ وَ بَاطِنِكُمْ لَعَنَ اللَّهُ أَعْدَاءَكُمْ مِنَ الْأَوَّلِينَ وَ الْآخِرِينَ وَ أَنَا أَبْرَأُ إِلَى اللَّهِ تَعَالَى مِنْهُمْ يَا مَوْلايَ يَا أَبَا مُحَمَّدٍ يَا مَوْلايَ يَا أَبَا عَبْدِ اللَّهِ هَذَا يَوْمُ الْإِثْنَيْنِ وَ هُوَ يَوْمُكُمَا وَ بِاسْمِكُمَا وَ أَنَا فِيهِ ضَيْفُكُمَا فَأَضِيفَانِي وَ أَحْسِنَا ضِيَافَتِي فَنِعْمَ مَنِ اسْتُضِيفَ بِهِ أَنْتُمَا وَ أَنَا فِيهِ مِنْ جِوَارِكُمَا فَأَجِيرَانِي فَإِنَّكُمَا مَأْمُورَانِ بِالضِّيَافَةِ وَ الْإِجَارَةِ فَصَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْكُمَا وَ آلِكُمَا الطَّيِّبِينَ

O my master, I am devoted to you and to your household. I am at peace with whoever is at peace with you, and I am at war with whoever is at war with you. I believe in your hidden and manifest, your outward and inward. May the curse of Allah be upon your enemies, from the first to the last of them. I seek dissociation from them before Allah. O my master, O Abu Muhammad! O my master, O Abu Abdillah! Today is Monday, and it is the day of you two noble ones, and it bears your names. I am your guest on this day, so receive me and grant me a gracious reception. How fortunate is the guest whose hosts are you! And I am on this day among those who seek refuge with you, so grant me refuge. Surely you have been commanded by Allah to receive guests and to grant refuge. May Allah send blessings upon you and upon your pure household.
