Methods and Types of Clarification

Sometimes the most effective sermon is the one nobody delivers. This session turns from what must be said to how it must be said — and insists the two cannot be separated. Imam Ali, peace be upon him, once described the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, as a "roaming physician" who carried his remedies to wherever the need was, treating blind hearts and deaf ears with whatever medicine the moment required. Clarification, the session argues, fails the instant it becomes a monologue delivered without reference to who is actually listening, what they fear, and what language they can hear. The session makes a case for presence that will unsettle a generation raised on screens: no digital platform, however useful, replaces a room where people gather and are seen. But it also names something uncomfortable — that in many places, masjids and centres have become closed circles where sincere voices are marginalised, making the digital space not a shortcut but a necessity. Alongside direct speech, the session recovers older, quieter methods: character lived rather than argued, a scene that stirs reflection without a sermon, the Qur'an's own preference for narrative over command — "We narrate to you the best of stories," not the best of instructions. If truth can be carried by a gesture as well as a sermon, why do we still assume only speech counts as clarification? What the evening covers The physician model. إِنَّ اللَّهَ وَ مَلائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَ سَلِّمُوا تَسْلِيما اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ بَارِكْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ تَحَنَّنْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ وَ سَلِّمْ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَأَفْضَلِ مَا صَلَّيْتَ وَ بَارَكْتَ وَ تَرَحَّمْتَ وَ تَحَنَّنْتَ وَ سَلَّمْتَ عَلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُحَمَّدا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَ الشَّرَفَ وَ الْفَضِيلَةَ وَ الْمَنْزِلَةَ الْكَرِيمَةَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ مُحَمَّدا وَ آلَ مُحَمَّدٍ أَعْظَمَ الْخَلائِقِ كُلِّهِمْ شَرَفا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ وَ أَقْرَبَهُمْ مِنْكَ مَقْعَدا وَ أَوْجَهَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ جَاها وَ أَفْضَلَهُمْ عِنْدَكَ مَنْزِلَةً وَ نَصِيبا اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُحَمَّدا أَشْرَفَ الْمَقَامِ وَ حِبَاءَ السَّلامِ وَ شَفَاعَةَ الْإِسْلامِ اللَّهُمَّ وَ أَلْحِقْنَا بِهِ غَيْرَ خَزَايَا وَ لا نَاكِثِينَ وَ لا نَادِمِينَ وَ لا مُبَدِّلِينَ إِلَهَ الْحَقِّ آمِينَ.

Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and salute him with a worthy salutation. O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and bestow benedictions upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and have mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, and send peace upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, just as the finest blessings, benedictions, mercy, compassion, and peace that You sent upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim. Verily, You are the Praiseworthy, the Glorious. O Allah, grant Muhammad the means of intercession (al-wasilah), and honor, and eminence, and a noble station. O Allah, make Muhammad and his family the greatest of all creation in honor on the Day of Resurrection, and the nearest of them to You in station, and the most distinguished among them on the Day of Resurrection in nobility and glory, and the most exalted of them before You in rank and favor. O Allah, grant Muhammad the most noble station, and reward, and salutation, and the intercession of Islam. O Allah, join us with him without disgrace, nor breach of covenant, nor regret, nor alteration of truths. O True Object of Worship, may the supplications be answered.
