Mending the Tapestry: Trials, Trust, and Turning to God

Monday, 24 November 2025

When a parent's advice crosses into sabotage, this session insists, honouring them stops being the pious choice — obeying God does. The final session turns to what happens when the tapestry tears. It begins, deliberately, with compassion rather than diagnosis-as-blame: the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him and his family, is remembered as a physician who sought out the sick rather than waiting to be summoned, and this session adopts the same posture toward marital breakdown — naming the illness in order to treat it, not to say "I told you so." Two categories of pathology are traced. From within, a marriage can rot through the "digital poison" of pornography and media that sets false expectations no real relationship can compete with; through the self-absorption or quiet emotional neglect of a spouse who treats their partner as an object rather than the cherished companion the tradition calls them to be; and through the abandonment of religious practice itself, which severs the covenant at its root, since God was meant to be its unseen centre. From without, the session names the "third peg" of interference — in-laws, friends or family who stretch a marriage toward breaking point through namimah, malicious gossip, which the Prophet named among the very worst of deeds. Kindness to parents is affirmed as a foundational duty, but obedience to them is shown to end precisely where they command what God forbids — "there is no obedience to a creature in disobedience to the Creator" — and the Qur'anic principle of tabayyun, verifying before acting on a report, is offered as the corrective to advice given from half the story. From this honest diagnosis, the session moves toward the lawful paths of repair and, where necessary, dissolution, and toward the spiritual tools of patience, resilience and turning back to God that carry a person through what cannot be undone. Can a wound be named honestly without it becoming a verdict against anyone? What the evening covers Diagnosis, not blame. The Prophet as "physician of the soul", and why naming what breaks a marriage is an act of mercy, not judgement. Pathologies from within. Pornography and media distortion, neglect, and the quiet abandonment of religious practice that severs the covenant's centre. The third peg. How in-laws and friends can stretch a marriage to breaking point, and the Prophet's warning against namimah. The limit of obedience. Why kindness to parents is unconditional but obedience is not, and how tabayyun protects a couple from advice built on half a story. From mediation to God. The Islamic pathways for repair or separation, and the spiritual tools for what remains.

And none can relieve my anguish save the breeze of Your mercy, and none can heal my illness save Your remedy. None can remove my sorrow save the station of nearness to You, and none can mend my wound save Your pardoning. None can cleanse the stain upon my heart save Your forgiveness, and none can dispel the whisperings of my breast save Your command. O ultimate hope of those who hope! O utmost desire of those who ask! O most distant aspiration of the seekers! O most exalted object of longing for those who yearn! O guardian of the righteous! O refuge of the fearful! O answerer of the supplication of the desperate! O provision of the deprived! O treasure of the destitute! O helper of those who cry for justice!
