[4] Shahada (Witness) - Every Day is Ashura and The Ambassador

Thursday, 18 June 2026

"Every day is Ashura, and every land is Karbala." This timeless maxim is frequently quoted, but rarely understood. On Night 4 of our series, we explore the deep divide between bearing witness with the tongue versus bearing witness with one’s entire life. Shaykh Shabbir Hassanally analyses the famous Sermon of Mina, where Imam Husayn (peace and blessings be upon him) confronted the intellectual elite of his time for their complicity and silence in the face of tyranny. The tragic reality of this silence unfolds in the Maqtal segment, titled "The Ambassador," detailing the total isolation and profound martyrdom of Muslim ibn Aqil in the hostile streets of Kufa. The night features the moving congregational elegy (Nohe) "Husayni Mawlaya" and our poetic English rendering of Ziyarat Ashura. Essential viewing for those exploring the relationship between faith, intellectual responsibility, standing against systemic oppression, and historical courage.
