[3] Shahada (Witness) - Five Kinds of Death and The Farewell of the Heart

Wednesday, 17 June 2026

Not all deaths are created equal; some deaths are a full stop, while others become a perpetual light for human society. On Night 3 of our series, Shaykh Shabbir Hassanally unpacks the seminal philosophical framework of the great Islamic thinker Ayatollah Murtadha Motahhari on the "Five Kinds of Death," illustrating how a true martyr's death acts as an injection of pure purpose into a dying social consciousness. The Maqtal moves into historical reality with "The Farewell of the Heart," documenting the painful, world-shattering moment Imam Husayn (peace and blessings be upon him) takes his final leave of the sanctuary of Medina, knowing the path of witness requires absolute sacrifice. The evening concludes with the communal elegy (Nohe) "Spirit of Husayn" and our poetic English recitation of Ziyarat Ashura. This lecture is highly recommended for students of Islamic philosophy, existential theology, and those studying the socio-political movements of the Ahl al-Bayt.

And those who have believed in Allah and His messengers - those are [in the ranks of] the supporters of truth and the martyrs, with their Lord. For them is their reward and their light. But those who have disbelieved and denied Our verses - those are the companions of Hellfire
