Code for Truth

5 August 2026Marawi, Philippines

In the humid heart of Marawi, sixteen-year-old Sofia stared at her tablet, her emerald-green hijab slipping slightly as she frowned. A viral post claimed Islam forbids helping non-Muslims—a blatant lie that sparked arguments in their tight-knit neighbourhood.

Sofia’s heart pounded. She had seen enough misinformation divide her community. She remembered the Imam’s teaching: 'Never be the first to initiate harm.' But silence felt worse.

She grabbed her laptop, opening her coding environment. 'If they want to lie,' she whispered, 'I’ll build a tool that shows the truth.'

For three sleepless nights, Sofia coded. She didn’t just copy-paste; she designed a platform that pulled directly from the Quran and authentic Hadith, letting users verify claims instantly against primary sources.

She launched 'SourceCheck' at the local youth centre. Skeptics gathered, ready to argue. Sofia clicked a button, linking the false claim to Quran 16:97: 'Whoever acts righteously... We shall revive him with a good life.'

The crowd fell silent. The truth, sourced directly from God’s words, needed no defender. Sofia smiled, adjusting her hijab. 'The truth doesn’t need manipulation,' she said. 'It just needs to be seen.'

Story Panels

Panel 1: Sofia, a Filipino teenager wearing an emerald-green hijab, sits at a wooden table in a modest Marawi home. She stares intensely at a tablet screen displaying a controversial social media post. The lighting is warm but tense.

Sofia’s thumb hovered over the screen, her breath catching in her throat. The post was spreading like wildfire in Marawi, twisting the meaning of Islam to shame the faithful.

Sofia:This isn’t just a mistake. It’s a weapon.

Panel 2: Close-up of Sofia’s face as she closes her eyes, leaving her tablet on the table. Her expression shifts from anger to determined calm. A prayer bead bracelet is visible on her wrist.

She remembered the Imam’s warning against initiating harm, but also the duty to correct falsehood. She took a deep breath, her mind racing with a new idea.

Sofia:If they want to lie, I’ll build a tool that shows the truth.

Panel 3: Sofia sits at a desk, surrounded by open books and a laptop. The screen glows with lines of code. She types rapidly, her fingers moving with purpose. A cup of hot chocolate sits nearby.

For three nights, Sofia traded sleep for code. She designed a platform that didn’t argue—it simply pulled direct quotes from the Quran and authentic Hadith, letting the primary sources speak for themselves.

Panel 4: Wide shot of a community hall in Marawi. Several young people stand in a semi-circle, looking skeptical or amused. Sofia is not visible, but her laptop is set up on a table in the foreground, screen facing them.

The next day, Sofia set up her laptop at the youth centre. Skeptics gathered, ready to challenge her. She didn’t speak; she just hit 'Enter'.

Panel 5: Close-up of the laptop screen. It displays the 'SourceCheck' interface. A false claim is highlighted in red, and a direct link to Quran 16:97 is displayed in green, with the verse text clearly visible.

The screen lit up. The false claim vanished, replaced by the clear, undeniable words of the Quran. The room fell silent as the truth displayed itself.

Narrator:Whoever acts righteously... We shall revive him with a good life.

Panel 6: Sofia stands beside the table, adjusting her emerald-green hijab with a gentle, confident smile. The background is blurred, but the faces of the crowd show respect and quiet contemplation.

Sofia adjusted her hijab, her heart light. She had not fought with words, but with truth. And in the end, the truth needed no defender.

Sofia:The truth doesn’t need manipulation. It just needs to be seen.

O you who have believed, if there comes to you a disobedient one with information, investigate, lest you harm a people out of ignorance and become, over what you have done, regretful
