The Regret of Neglecting Divine Guidance
In Surah al-Mulk, the Quran reveals the profound regret of those who will inhabit the Fire. They will lament, “Had we listened or applied reason, we would not have been among inmates of the Blaze” (67:10).
This verse highlights the tragic reality of individuals who find themselves separated from their loved ones in Paradise, forced to confront the consequences of their choices.
As explained in Al-Mizan, these individuals did not lack access to truth; rather, they heard and understood the divine message but failed to obey or accept it. Their remorse stems from neglecting what was due from God’s side, a failure that leads to the acknowledgement of their sin.
As the verse continues, “but far will be (forgiveness) from the inmates of the burning fire” (67:11).
This serves as a solemn reminder that mere exposure to guidance is insufficient without sincere reflection and obedience.
