# The Garment of Devotion: Clothing the Body and Soul with Sincerity

Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) teaches us that the most beautiful clothing for a believer is the garment of taqwa — devotion to God — and its greatest blessing is faith. While outer garments are a divine honour bestowed upon the children of Adam to cover their physical form, the true purpose of clothing extends far beyond appearance. The best garment is one that does not occupy you with anything other than God, but instead draws you closer to gratitude, remembrance, and obedience. Clothing that leads to pride, vanity, and hypocrisy becomes a source of spiritual ruin and hardness of heart. Each time we dress, we are reminded to clothe our inner state with sincerity, just as we cover our outer form. God, in His infinite mercy, not only provided garments for our bodies but also opened the doors of repentance to cover the hidden shame of our sins.

> اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ وَآلِهِ، وَلَا تَرْفَعْنِي فِي النَّاسِ دَرَجَةً إِلَّا حَطَطْتَنِي عِنْدَ نَفْسِي مِثْلَهَا، وَلَا تُحْدِثْ لِي عِزّاً ظَاهِراً إِلَّا أَحْدَثْتَ لِي ذِلَّةً بَاطِنَةً عِنْدَ نَفْسِي بِقَدَرِهَا .

> O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, raise me not a single degree before the people without lowering me its like in myself and bring about no outward exaltation for me without an inward abasement in myself to the same measure!
