# The Divine Gaze: God’s Intimate Attention to the Worshipper

A profound tradition narrated from Imam al-Baqir (AS) reveals the immense spiritual honour bestowed upon the faithful servant during prayer. The Prophet (PBUH & His Family) taught that when a believer stands in prayer, God the High turns His attention directly towards him. This divine gaze continues until the prayer concludes, at which point mercy descends from heaven to cover the worshipper’s head, while angels surround him from above.

An angel is appointed to stand above the worshipper, declaring: ‘O Worshipper, if only you knew who is looking at you and with whom you are conversing privately, you would not turn towards anyone else and you would never abandon this place.’ This intimate communion highlights the unique status of prayer as a direct, private conversation with the Creator, free from worldly distractions.

> اللَّهُمْ إِنَّا نَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ نَذْهَبَ عَنْ قَوْلِكَ، أَوْ نُفْتَتَنَ عَنْ دِينِكَ، أَوْ تَتَابَعَ بِنَا أَهْوَاؤُنَا دُونَ الْهُدَى الَّذِي جَاءَ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ!

> O my Allāh! We seek Thy protection from turning away from Thy command or revolting against Thy religion, or being led away by our desires instead of by guidance that comes from Thee.
