O Callous Self! Awaken from the Pursuit of Worldly Pleasures
This world is a stage of action whose aim is a higher, more sublime sphere of existence. This lower, animal existence is not an end in itself.
A rational person should reflect introspectively and feel pity for his state of helplessness, addressing his own self: "O callous self! Thou hast wasted precious years of thy short life pursuing hedonistic and sensuous propensities, and nothing is gained except regret and a sense of loss.
One should be regretful before God for past deeds and commence a new journey towards His prescribed goal — the life of eternity and perpetual bliss. One should not bargain short-lived transitory joys, which are hard to obtain, for eternal felicity.
Reflect upon the conditions of people from the dawn of civilisation to the present day. Their pains and sufferings always overwhelmed and cancelled their joys and pleasures. Joys are not for everyone in this life.

Whatever you have will end, but what Allah has is lasting. And We will surely give those who were patient their reward according to the best of what they used to do
