# Divine Delay Is Not Divine Denial: The Hidden Mercy in Unanswered Prayers

When we raise our hands in supplication and the answer seems delayed, it is natural for the heart to wonder why. Yet the wisdom of the Almighty far surpasses our limited understanding. Sometimes Allah delays the fulfilment of our prayers not out of neglect, but out of profound mercy. Imam Ali (AS) taught that God may withhold what we desire to grant us something far better, or to draw us closer to Him through continued supplication. Every moment spent in prayer strengthens our bond with the Divine. The delay itself becomes a gift — it purifies our intentions, deepens our reliance upon Allah, and reminds us that we are never self-sufficient. Imam al-Sadiq (AS) reminded the believers that Allah loves the voice of His servant in prayer, and so He may prolong the conversation. Let us never mistake divine delay for divine denial, but instead embrace each moment of waiting as an invitation to draw nearer to our Lord.

## Scripture

>
> O God, bless Muhammad and his Household, delight my soul through Your decree, expand my breast through the instances of Your decision, give to me a trust through which I may admit that Your decree runs only to the best, and let my gratitude to You for what You have taken away from me be more abundant than my gratitude to You for what You have conferred upon me!

— *Sahifa Sajjadiyyah, Prayer 35: His Supplication in Satisfaction with the Decree, Verse 3*
