# Getting Started

Your companion for authentic Islamic education and daily worship.

Peace be upon you, and welcome to Truth Promoters. We are a global online religious community
dedicated to educating people about authentic Islamic teachings with kindness, compassion and
gentleness.

## Our mission

Truth Promoters was founded to provide authentic Islamic education and resources to Muslims
around the world. We believe in presenting the truth with evidence, engaging in respectful
dialogue, and building bridges of understanding within the Muslim Ummah and beyond.

**Truth.** We seek and share authentic Islamic knowledge based on the Quran, the teachings of
the Prophet, and his purified household.

**Compassion.** We approach all discussions with kindness and understanding, following the
example of Ahlul Bayt.

**Education.** We aim to educate and enlighten, not to debate. Knowledge shared with wisdom
benefits all.

**Unity.** We believe in building bridges between communities, fostering understanding and
mutual respect.

## Website features

Our website offers several features designed to support your daily worship and Islamic
learning.

**Accurate prayer times.** Prayer times calculated for your exact location using multiple
methods, including Ithna Asheri (Jafari), ISNA and Muslim World League. Both Standard and
Hanafi Asr calculations are supported.

**Islamic calendar.** A full Hijri calendar with important Islamic dates, including the birth
and martyrdom anniversaries of the Holy Prophet and Ahlul Bayt, Ramadan, Muharram and more.

**Push notifications.** Reminders for prayer times, community events and Islamic calendar
dates, delivered to your device even when your browser is closed. Choose from Shia or Sunni
adhaan sounds.

**Articles and reflections.** Insightful articles, scholarly reflections and educational
content on a range of Islamic topics. Many can be listened to as well as read.

**Community events.** Lectures, gatherings and special programmes organised by our community,
so you never miss an important event.

## Quick start guide

1. **Set your location.** Allow location access when prompted, or use the location icon on
   the homepage to set your city by hand. This is what makes prayer times accurate.
2. **Choose your calculation method.** Use the settings icon to select your preferred prayer
   time calculation method. Ithna Asheri (Shia) is the default.
3. **Enable notifications.** Use the bell icon to set up prayer time notifications. Enable
   server notifications to receive alerts even when your browser is closed.
4. **Explore the site.** Browse the calendar for Islamic dates, articles for educational
   content, and events for upcoming community gatherings.

## Accessibility

We aim to make the site usable by everyone.

**Dark mode.** Switch between light and dark themes using the button in the header.

**Audio.** Many pages can be listened to rather than read, and the player remembers your
place. See the [listening guide](/help/listening).

**Mobile friendly.** The site is fully responsive and works on phones, tablets and desktops.
