The Starting Point of the Prophetic Mission
Wednesday, 29 January 2025
Opens 15 minutes before the session begins.
Prophethood, Part 5 The Prophet's earliest followers were willing to die within days of joining him — because on day one, he told them exactly, and only, what he had come to do. This session's argument is about method: the prophets never built support the way a politician does, testing which promises land best and softening the rest. From the very first day of every prophetic mission, the evening argues, the entire message was a single declaration — "there is no god except God" — offered identically to the powerful and the powerless, with nothing held back for later. The evening insists that the illiterate desert Arabs who first heard this sentence understood immediately that it was not only a statement about God, but a direct threat to every existing structure of power and wealth around them — which is why opposition to it formed instantly and openly, rather than gradually. Among the first to accept it were Yasir and Sumayyah, the parents of the companion Ammar ibn Yasir, remembered as the first martyrs of Islam — endurance the evening credits to real insight (basirah) into what they had joined, not blind loyalty. Why does actually knowing your own cause determine whether you can bear to suffer for it? What the evening covers One sentence, unsoftened. Why the prophets' opening message was never adjusted for the audience in front of them. Understood instantly, opposed instantly. How the earliest hearers grasped the political weight of "no god but God" before anyone had to explain it. Yasir and Sumayyah. The first martyrs of Islam, held up as proof that insight, not blind loyalty, is what makes faith bearable under pressure. A modern comparison. The evening's own contrast between this clarity and how causes are built — and abandoned — today.
In this session
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, there is no deity but Allah, Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, and to Him alone belongs all praise. Allah is the Greatest for that to which He has guided us. Allah is the Greatest for that which He has provided us of speechless livestock, and praise be to Allah for that with which He has tested us.
