Having spent ten sessions on why supplication matters, this evening turns to how — beginning with the first and most visible condition: timing. But understanding it requires unlearning the ordinary calendar. In Islamic reckoning, the day begins at Fajr, not midnight, and the night belongs to the day that follows it. So "the night of Wednesday" is Tuesday evening after Maghrib, and "the night of Friday" is Thursday evening after Maghrib — a reversal that changes which evening a whole tradition of recommended prayer actually applies to. Inside that framework, three windows open. The pre-dawn hour, sahar, is named directly in the Qur'an — "and at dawn they would seek forgiveness" — and Imam al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, describes it as the hour when "the gates of the heavens are opened… and needs are fulfilled." Tuesday night carries Dua al-Tawassul, recited through the Prophet and his family as intercessors, with Imam al-Sadiq's promise that supplication on this night "is answered" barring sin or severed kinship. Friday, Sayyid al-Ayyam, master of days, is commanded directly in the Qur'an as a day to hasten toward the remembrance of God. What has God folded into the rhythm of an ordinary week that most people simply walk through? What the evening covers How Islamic time actually works. Tuesday after Maghrib, and the recitation of Dua al-Tawassul. Friday, master of days. The Qur'an's direct command to hasten to remembrance. Why these windows exist at all.
