Why? "His food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful, his clothing is unlawful, and he has been nourished with the unlawful." This closing session of The Heart of the Matter — and of the entire series — asks what fuels the pure, certain heart built across the two previous evenings. The Qur'an's command to the Messengers is precise in its order: "eat of the good things, and act righteously" — food before deed, because, as Allamah Tabatabai explains, what enters us becomes us. Rizq, sustenance, is never only food. Asked what a believer's food really is, Imam Ja'far al-Sadiq, peace be upon him, answered: "his knowledge, which he takes, and from whom he takes it." That reframing forces an audit wider than a halal label — into the source of our earnings, the honesty of our trade, and the accounts and speakers we let feed our minds. The Qur'an names two kinds of leadership we can be nourished by: "Imams who guide by Our command," and "imams who invite to the Fire." The session confronts the believer's economic bind — permissions for interest-based transactions granted only under necessity, never endorsement — and calls not for complacency but for the creative labour of building lawful alternatives. Why necessity should spur creative struggle, not complacency — a fitting close to the series. ## Scripture > بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَ مَا مِنْ دَابَّةٍ فِي الْأَرْضِ إِلا عَلَى اللَّهِ رِزْقُهَا وَ يَعْلَمُ مُسْتَقَرَّهَا وَ مُسْتَوْدَعَهَا كُلٌّ فِي كِتَابٍ مُبِينٍ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ وَ إِنْ يَمْسَسْكَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ فَلا كَاشِفَ لَهُ إِلا هُوَ وَ إِنْ يُرِدْكَ بِخَيْرٍ فَلا رَادَّ لِفَضْلِهِ يُصِيبُ بِهِ مَنْ يَشَاءُ مِنْ عِبَادِهِ وَ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ سَيَجْعَلُ اللَّهُ بَعْدَ عُسْرٍ يُسْرا مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لا قُوَّةَ إِلا بِاللَّهِ حَسْبُنَا اللَّهُ وَ نِعْمَ الْوَكِيلُ وَ أُفَوِّضُ أَمْرِي إِلَى اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَصِيرٌ بِالْعِبَادِ لا إِلَهَ إِلا أَنْتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنْتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنْزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ رَبِّ لا تَذَرْنِي فَرْدا وَ أَنْتَ خَيْرُ الْوَارِثِينَ > > In the name of Allah, whose mercy is abundant and whose compassion is everlasting. There is no moving creature on earth but that its sustenance is upon Allah, and He knows its dwelling place and its place of deposit; all of this is in a clear book. In the name of Allah, whose mercy is abundant and whose compassion is everlasting. If Allah afflicts you with harm, there is none who can remove it except Him, and if He intends good for you, there is none who can repel His bounty; He bestows it upon whomever He wills among His servants, and He is the All-Forgiving, the All-Merciful. In the name of Allah, whose mercy is abundant and whose compassion is everlasting. Allah will soon bring about ease after hardship. Whatever Allah has willed shall come to pass; there is no power except with Allah. Allah is sufficient for us and He is the best Disposer of affairs. I entrust my affair to Allah, for indeed Allah is All-Seeing of His servants. There is no deity but You; verily I have been among the wrongdoers. O my Lord, indeed I am in need of whatever good You send down to me.
