It would be easy to assume that asking God for something in return — success, provision, relief — is a lesser, self-interested kind of worship. This session argues the opposite: that God, who is closer to us than our own jugular vein, already knows every transactional motive we carry, and has never condemned it. Drawing on the framework of Ayatullah Sayyed Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr and Ayatullah Murtadha Mutahhari, the session sets out three ascending ranks of servitude: worship out of fear of punishment, worship out of desire for reward, and worship purely out of love. Nobody begins at the summit. What matters is that a person is moving. The session then turns to intention itself, using the narration that "actions are judged by intentions" to show how two outwardly identical acts — two people fasting on the same day — can carry entirely different spiritual weight depending on what drives them. From here it warns against a subtler danger: the creeping conceit that spoils sincerity once a good deed is noticed, illustrated through the contrast between a request made with humble gratitude and one made with entitlement. A line from Imam al-Sajjad's Dua Makarim al-Akhlaq — asking God never to raise one's rank before people without lowering it correspondingly before oneself — closes this first look at what supplication trains in us. Does the reason you pray change what your prayer is worth? What the evening covers Three ranks of servitude. Worship of fear, worship of reward, and worship of love, and why beginning low is not a failure. Intention as the axis. The narration on actions and intentions, and why two identical acts can carry opposite spiritual value. The danger of riya. Why conceit and showing off can quietly hollow out a sincere deed. Dua Makarim al-Akhlaq.
