Imam Sajjad: The Whispered Revolution

Imamah, Part 9 In the years right after Karbala, only three men in the whole of the Hijaz stayed loyal to the truth without wavering. That number is recorded, not exaggerated: the rest of the community, terrified after the massacre of Karbala and the later massacre at Harrah, quietly turned back. It fell to Imam Sajjad, peace be upon him, the fourth Imam, to rebuild from that number of three — not through open confrontation, which would have finished what the massacres started, but through thirty-five years of supplication, correspondence and a network built in plain sight. His central instrument was Sahifa al-Sajjadiyyah, a collection of prayers that reads as devotion but functions, the session argues, as encoded theology, ethics and political instruction — sermons hidden inside supplication, composed for a period when a spy could be standing in the next room. He also wrote directly: a surviving letter rebukes a former student, now installed in the service of the ruling elite, for confirming their lies and dressing up their injustice as piety.
