# A Calmer Front Page

_Our home page had grown long and busy, with the prayer times shown twice and the weekly majlis easy to scroll past. We rebuilt it around one question: what is happening today? And we added something people have asked for: a month of prayer times for any place, ready to print for a prayer room._

>
> **Literal:** And when you have completed the prayer, remember God standing, sitting, or [lying] on your sides. But when you become secure, re-establish [regular] prayer. Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times
>
> **Contextual:** When the prayer is done, keep God in mind, standing, sitting and lying down; and when you are safe again, keep up the prayer, for the prayer is written for the believers at its appointed times.
>
> — Qur'an, Surah an-Nisa (the Chapter of the Women) #4, Verse 103
Every website grows the way a house does. A shelf here, a notice there, and one day you walk in and cannot find the door.

Ours had got like that. The home page ran on for screen after screen. The prayer times appeared twice. The weekly majlis, the thing we most want someone new to know about, sat several screens below things that change far less often. Someone arriving for the first time had to scroll a long way to learn what is actually happening today.

So we started again from one question: **what does someone need to see first?**

## What Is Happening Today, First

The top of the page now answers it in one band: today's date in both calendars, the day's occasion when there is one, and **the prayer times, once**, with the next prayer marked.

Beside it, **today's reflection** has a calmer card: its picture, its title, a short opening and the verse it draws on. Watch opens the video in a window over the page, so nothing plays until you ask.

And **every Wednesday's majlis** now has a strip of its own on the home page. It shows the next session and when it starts, tells you when it is about to begin and when it is live, and offers the Zoom link at the right moment.

## A Month of Prayer Times, Ready to Print

This is the part people asked for. **[Prayer times](/prayer-times)** shows the whole month for your place, a row for each day, with the Hijri date beside it and today highlighted. You can change the place (planning a journey, say) without changing the one the home page uses, and your own calculation settings apply.

**Print this month** gives a single page for a prayer room, a masjid noticeboard or the fridge. It carries our name, both calendars and the month's Hijri months, Fridays lightly shaded, Imsaak on the days of fasting (in Rajab, Sha'ban and Ramadan, and on Mondays and Thursdays), and at its head a verse of the Qur'an or a narration for the month, chosen with the month and its occasions in mind. At its foot it says how the times are worked out, and asks you to check them against your local mosque, because they are calculated, not observed.

## For Everyone Who Used namaaz.net

We have recently retired **namaaz.net**. Its software had grown very old, and keeping it running safely was no longer practical. We know many people relied on it, so what it did now lives here: namaaz.net brings you to truthpromoters.com, where today's prayer times are at the top of the home page, and the whole month, for any place, is on **[Prayer times](/prayer-times)**, ready to print.

## A Correction, and an Apology

Building the timetable, we found a mistake in our prayer times that had been there for a long time. To show a time in a place's own clock, we have to know that place's time zone, and we were working it out from a rough map. **For some places the map was wrong.** In Najaf and Karbala every time was half an hour late. In Kabul and Dhaka it was half an hour out, and in a few places it was out by hours. In the UK, Europe, Iran and Pakistan it was right, which is why nobody noticed.

Every time on the site now uses the place's own time zone. **We are sorry.** If you have chosen a place outside the UK, please look at today's times again.

## Everything Else, in a Line Each

- **[Articles and news from our publications](/news):** the newest stories from each of our sites, a row per site. Latest on the home page now separates our dispatches from our publications' stories, with a link to each.
- **A trail at the top of every page**, Home › Events, for example, so wherever you land, even from a search or a link someone sent you, you can see where you are and get back in one tap.
- **Search results** now show each result's picture and let you jump straight to the kind you want.
- **Every page now begins "In His Name, the Most High".**
- **The months are named one way everywhere** (Jumada al-Ula, Jumada al-Thani, Sha'ban and the rest), and where a verse is quoted in English, we write "God".

## What Did Not Change

**Nothing has been taken away.** Every reflection, event, dispatch and publication is where it was. The search box moved into the header, behind the magnifying glass, so it is on every page now and not only the home page.

## Tell Us

If something looks wrong on your phone or your computer, or a time does not match your mosque's, **[tell us](/contact)**. The fastest way for us to fix something is for someone to say it is broken.
